We’re often asked what kind of questions we use in our interviews. The truth is, we never rely on a fixed script — every person’s story is unique, and the questions naturally shift to follow what feels most important in that moment. That said, people are curious about what it looks like, so we decided to share a sample set of life-stage questions here.
These questions are structured around different chapters of life — childhood, school, teenage years, early adulthood, and beyond. Each set is designed to spark memories that might otherwise stay tucked away: the smell of a childhood kitchen, the music blasting in your teenage room, or that one decision in early adulthood that changed everything (for better or worse). Some are reflective, some playful, and together they create a natural rhythm to help the conversation flow without feeling staged.
Our goal is not only to capture the facts of someone’s life, but to preserve the feel of it — the laughter, the hesitations, the details that reveal personality and character. That’s why these questions aren’t set in stone. They keep evolving as we listen, learn, and discover what truly helps people open up.
We’d love your feedback. If there are prompts you wish someone had asked your parents, grandparents, or even yourself, let us know. This project grows best when it’s shaped by real voices and real stories. After all, the more perspectives we bring in, the richer and more timeless the record of a life becomes.
At The Life Chronicles, we guide you through this process step by step. In a relaxed, interview-style conversation, we help you uncover those chapters and bring them to life on film — in your own words, with your own voice. The result is a cinematic portrait you can share today and pass down tomorrow.

🍼 Early Age (Before School)
✨These are the years when the world was brand new — every sight, sound, and smell was a first. These questions are about those earliest impressions, when home and family were your whole universe.
- Where and when were you born? What are your earliest memories?
- How would you describe that epoch right now?
- Can you describe your childhood home, your room, and the neighborhood around it?
- What did it smell or sound like at home — a kitchen smell, a radio, voices?
- What games, routines, or family traditions stand out from your earliest years?
🎒 Lower School (Primary Years)
✨School begins, friendships form, and you start to see yourself as part of a wider world. These questions explore the little details that made those first years of learning and play unforgettable.
- What was school like for you in the beginning — who were your favorite teachers or subjects?
- How did you look then — what clothes, haircut, or style do you remember most?
- What was in your room at that time — toys, books, or something on the walls?
- Who were your closest friends, and what did you enjoy doing together?
- What moments from those years still feel vivid — either very happy or very hard?
- Can you recall the first time you questioned the world or realized life was more complicated?
👩🎓 Teenage & Upper School
✨Growing up is all about finding your own voice, and sometimes that means clashing with the people who raised you. These questions are designed to get you thinking — and maybe even laughing — about those moments when independence meets family rules. There are no right or wrong answers here. Just stories, feelings, and lessons that show how you’ve started to stand on your own two feet.
- How did you change as you moved into your teenage years?
- How would you describe your look back then — clothes, hair, or shoes you loved?
- What felt most important to you as a teenager — what shaped your identity at that time?
- What’s one “classic” argument you had with your parents?
- What’s the silliest or funniest argument you ever had about independence — one you can laugh about now?
- Can you remember the first time you really stood up to your parents because you wanted to make your own decision?
- If you had to choose one rule that was worth fighting against — and one rule your parents were actually right about — which would they be?
- If you could rewrite one house rule to give yourself more independence, what would it be — and how would you convince your parents?
- If I peeked into your room at that time, what would I see — posters, music, favorite objects?
- What music or sounds filled your space back then?
- What were the highs and lows of those years — the moments of joy and the challenges?
- Who was your first love?
- What books, music, or role models influenced you most during those years?
🚀 Early Adulthood & University
✨Those first years on your own are a mix of freedom, missteps, and figuring out how the world really works. These questions are about the choices that shaped you — the brilliant ones, the questionable ones, and the ones you can laugh about now.
- What did those years feel like — stepping into university, work, or adult life for the first time?
- In what ways did you change during that stage of life?
- What did “fun” look like for you back then?
- Who or what influenced you most at that time — friends, mentors, role models, or maybe even a book or song?
- What was your first real responsibility or job, and how did it change the way you saw yourself?
- When did you first think, “Okay, I’m really a grown-up now” — and what sparked that realization?
- What was your first big independent decision — and did it turn out as you expected, or not at all?
- Can you share one decision you’re still proud of, and one that makes you laugh (or cringe) today?
- If you had a magic “redo” button for one choice from those years, what would you press it for?
- What was a turning point — a choice, event, or moment that sent your life in a new direction?
- Looking back, would your younger self be impressed by where those choices led… or would they just roll their eyes?
- What books, music, or role models shaped you most during that stage?
🌍 Adulthood
✨Adulthood is full of choices, surprises, and those small everyday routines that end up shaping whole decades. These questions are meant to draw out both the big turning points and the little details that make your story feel alive.
- What led you toward the career path you chose — was it passion, chance, or a bit of both
- Any regrets or “what ifs” looking back?
- Can you name a pivotal moment that shifted the course of your life?
- What major decisions stand out — the kind that changed everything?
- If you had a magic “redo” button for one choice in those years, what would you use it on?
- How did your life change over these years — in work, family, or in how you saw yourself?
- What were your dreams then, and what are your dreams now?
- What sounds, music, or small routines filled your everyday life at that time? (Think morning radio, coffee rituals, kids running around…)
- If you could relive one ordinary day just as it was, which day would you choose — and why?
- Looking back, what lessons or stories would you most want to pass on to the next generation?
🌟 Closing Questions
✨ It’s often the small things that shine brightest — the simple moments of joy, the ordinary days that meant more than we realized, and the messages we’d want to leave behind. These closing questions are meant to bring everything full circle: looking back with a smile, appreciating the present, and passing something forward for the future.
- When you look back, what makes you smile the most?
- If you could relive one ordinary day just as it was, which day would you choose?
- What small joys do you enjoy most these days — a walk, a favorite food, a song?
- If you could leave one message for the next generation, what would it be?
